For those owners whose mount has a SynScan handcontroller this functionality is available “out of the box”. Prior to SynScan V3. 01 the handcontroller had to be placed in a special "serial mode” for this to work. From SynScan V3. 01 onwards the handcontroller is always in serial mode, and is always ready to talk with a serial connection. In this mode the SynScan unit provides the alignment and goto algorithms and must be configured with time, date and location. Some Planetarium may provide native support for Celestron drivers others may require the use of the ASCOM platform and associated ASCOM Nextstar drivers.
