Movicol powder for oral solution is a laxative indicated for the treatment of constipation. It works by increasing the bowel movements and aids in comfortable intestinal moments. Each sachet contains 6.9g blend of Macrogol 3350, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Bicarbonate, Potassium Chloride. Constipation is a condition in which a person has uncomfortable or infrequent bowel movements. Generally, bowel movements result in passage of small amounts of hard, dry stool, usually fewer than three times a week which is due to absorption of too much water from the colon. As the food moves from stomach to intestine, the intestine absorbs the water. Muscle contractions then push the stool toward the rectum, and by the time the stool reaches the rectum, most of the water has been absorbed, making the stool solid which results in difficult and painful bowel movements or feeling bloated or uncomfortable. Macrogol is an osmotically acting laxative, that is, an inert substance that passes through the gut without being absorbed into the body.
