For over 35 years, Jacquard has been dedicated to meeting the needs of artists and crafters everywhere.Family owned and operated, we have been the leader in artist materials for fabric and are committed to offering top quality materials to everyone from professional artists to hobbyists and students.Jacquard's Procion MX fiber reactive dye powder is best used as fabric dye for cotton, linen, hemp, rayon, viscose and bamboo - any natural, plant-based fibers.Before application, your fabric needs to be soaked in a solution of one cup of soda ash to one gallon of water for about 20 minutes.This makes the clothing dye permanent.You can also add the soda ash to the tie dye dye solution for immersion dyeing.To apply with a bottle, use a ratio of one cup tap water to 2 teaspoons of dye.For immersion dyeing, to achieve a medium color, use 1 tablespoon dye, 1 ½ cups salt, and ¼ cup of soda ash.Ratios can be adjusted to create pastels or deep, rich colors, and the tie dye colors can be mixed to create the perfect shade for your project! The dye powder goes a long way, as one 2/3oz jar will dye approximately 1lb of dry fabric.Once the dye is mixed, you can add it to a bottle for easy tie Fold and tie your fabric into specific patterns to try Shibori.While in powder form, the dye is also great as ice dye powder, sprinkled on the ice and left to melt into your fabric.Because this is a cold-water dye, Procion MX dye is perfect for batik dyeing, as it will not melt the wax once it is applied.The dye can also be thickened with sodium alginate and used to screen print designs.Each dye is measured by weight, not volume and jars may appear less full when compared to each other.Dye powder may also vary in appearance from the color it will produce.Create a test swatch to ensure you get the perfect shade for your project
