Leading Dubai social enterprise ENABLE opens its first stand-alone retail space at Carrefour Dubai Festival City

Dubai, 13 December 2017 – Carrefour, one of the largest hypermarket and supermarket chains in the world and operated by Majid al Futtaim in 38 countries across the Middle East, Africa and Asia, has joined forces with ENABLE, a leading Dubai-based social enterprise, to provide floor space in its store in Dubai Festival City to benefit young Emirati entrepreneurs of determination.
The ENABLE ‘shop-in-shop’ at Carrefour, which opens today, is the first stand-alone retail space managed and represented solely by the talented young UAE National entrepreneurs of determination who make up the ENABLE team.
Currently selling their garden and home décor products from display spaces at Dubai Garden Centre and Wahat Al Sahraa nursery, ENABLE will now have a permanent spot in the Carrefour hypermarket market where its entrepreneurs will be involved in interacting with customers and selling the products they have made. The ENABLE team will also organize regular workshops and engage with customers, teaching them the making of various succulent and other plant arrangements.
ENABLE is a non-profit venture, established by the Desert Group in 2015. 100% of the revenues from ENABLE products sold are used to fuel its retail operations, with 15% of revenue from each product sold going directly back to the employee who created it to help encourage and to empower their personal abilities.

* More than 10,850 pictures make up the world’s longest ever line of photographs, now on display at Dubai Festival City.
Dubai, 9 August 2017 – Thousands of UAE citizens, residents and visitors today helped set a new Guinness World Record for the longest line of photographs ever gathered.
The record-breaking line of photographs measures 1655.192 meters (i.e. more than 1.5km) long, and is on display in the atrium of Dubai Festival City. Thousands of UAE citizens, residents and visitors took part in the attempt, which was part of a partnership campaign between Procter & Gamble and Carrefour, which is operated by Majid Al Futtaim.
Carrefour customers shopping at the brand’s stores at either Mall of the Emirates and Dubai Festival City between 30th July and 9th August were given the opportunity to be part of the new Guinness World Record by submitting a photograph of one of their happiest memories. More than 10,850 photographs were donated by members of the public and visiting judges from the Guinness World Records today verified on-site that Dubai is the holder of the new world record. The photographs will be on display at Dubai Festival City until 16th of August, as part of a thank you to customers of Carrefour’s latest hypermarket, which opened in the mall earlier this year.
The world record attempt enabled people in the UAE to relive treasured moments again as well as play a part in setting a new world record for the nation. The campaign also created new happy memories: customers that visited any Carrefour hypermarket or supermarket across the UAE and purchased AED 100 worth of participating P&G products from selected brands during the campaign also had the chance to win family experiences to attractions such as Ski Dubai, iFly, VOX Cinemas and other Majid Al Futtaim attractions. More than 140 prizes were given away to happy customers during the campaign.

The multi-temperature storage at the new distribution centre is designed to meet the storage needs of the different food types and dry foods as well as warehousing for non-food goods. With a total storage capacity of over 400 million units to support Carrefour’s brick and mortar stores in addition to the Omni-channel business of Carrefour.

Ministry of Climate Change and Environment Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Majid Al Futtaim Retail to Support Local Agricultural Production
Dubai, UAE - May 23, 2017: The Ministry of Climate Change and
Environment (MOCCAE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Majid
Al Futtaim Retail to cooperate in the marketing of local agricultural products
through Carrefour stores in the UAE.
The MoU was signed by His Excellency Sultan Alwan, Assistant Undersecretary of the Regions Sector at MOCCAE, and Miguel Provedano, Executive Regional Director for Carrefour UAE at Majid Al Futtaim Retail.
Under the terms of the agreement, Majid Al Futtaim will provide sales training to local suppliers of agricultural products. Furthermore, the company will support MOCCAE’s Mawroothna social initiative that assists companies and entrepreneurs active in the field of agriculture and fisheries.
The MoU is the result of the keenness of the two parties to strengthen their strategic partnership and join forces in promoting the UAE's agricultural sector and marketing local agricultural products. Its ultimate objective is to enhance food diversity and security in the country, and ensure the sustainability of its environment for present and future generations.
The initiative comes in response to the growing demand for local organic production and the Ministry’s drive to promote the UAE’s organic market through raising public awareness about the benefits of organic products.
His Excellency Sultan Alwan said: “In line with the UAE’s green development efforts and its commitment to adopting a green economy in the pursuit of sustainable development goals, food diversity is one of the top-priority strategic issues for the country’s government. In this context, MOCCAE aims to enhance the economic competitiveness of the UAE’s agricultural sector, create jobs, attract investments, support innovation and knowledge, and enhance the efficient use of natural resources.”
He added: “MOCCAE works relentlessly to support local agriculture industry and the marketing of its products in order to implement the country's food diversity strategy. The Ministry provides farmers with agricultural production essentials, such as fertilizers, pesticides, irrigation pipes, soil testing devices, seeds and organic agriculture supplies, at a 50 percent discount. Among other achievements, these measures have led to a 33.5 percent growth of aquaculture over the past three years.”
For his part, Miguel Provedano said: "Majid Al Futtaim Retail is proud to be an active community organization that supports local farmers through selling their products in Carrefour stores, contributing to economic diversification and promoting the national economy.”
He added: “The partnership with MOCCAE allows us to participate in the development of a competitive local agricultural value chain and to improve the efficiency of farm production through training and educating local farmers on the sale and promotion of their products. The agreement also supports the objectives of Majid Al Futtaim Retail to bridge the gap between the supply and demand of fresh produce, and enhance the diversity of local products available in Carrefour.”
The demand for organic produce in the UAE has been rising steadily, and the supply is not far behind. In 2016, the sales of local organic products increased by AED20 million through the addition of two partner outlets. By end-2016, the country had 80 organic vegetable farms, seven organic animal farms and five organic manufacturing facilities spanning a total area of 45,890 acres.

Finance, under the consumer facing brand of Najm, started the activation of this
service for the first time in the region earlier this month in Deira City
The new service, a first-of-its kind in a retail store within the UAE, allows prospective card members the ability to walk into a Carrefour Hypermarket and within 15 minutes be issued a Najm Credit Card that can be instantly used to earn cashback and benefit from offers.
The process requires minimal paperwork and utilizes the UAE’s Smart Government initiatives, taking applicant’s information from their Emirates ID card and securely transmitting it to the Al Etihad Credit Bureau for scoring.
Addressing media on what was identified as an opportunity to increase the customer experience, Chief Executive Officer at Najm, Rasool Hujair commented on the new service, “We are laser focused on our customer experience at all phases in the journey, and on-boarding new customers is an area we identified that we could significantly improve with this new offering.”

MoU covers food, textile and electronic products
Dubai, 22 January, 2017: Dubai SME, the agency of the Department of Economic Development (DED) in Dubai mandated to develop the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Majid Al Futtaim Retail to support members of Dubai SME through the display of their products at Carrefour hypermarkets and supermarkets, which Majid Al Futtaim Retail owns in 38 markets,
The aim of the agreement between the two parties is to enhance competitiveness amongst members of Dubai SME, support the development of small and medium enterprises in the retail business and contribute to the GDP of Dubai and the UAE.
The MoU was signed at Dubai SME’s headquarters in the Business Village by His Excellency Abdul Baset Al Janahi, Chief Executive Officer, Dubai SME, and Miguel Povedano, Executive Regional Director, Carrefour UAE, with the presence of a number of executives and officials from both sides.

Carrefour to open largest regional distribution centre in National Industries Park

800,000 square feet facility to feature advanced warehousing and logistics technologies
Dubai, UAE – 02 January, 2017: Majid Al Futtaim, the leading shopping mall, retail and leisure pioneer across the Middle East and North Africa, today announced that it will open a new distribution centre at the National Industries Park (NIP) in Dubai. The centre, once operational, will be the largest and most advanced distribution hub of its kind for Carrefour in the region.
The facility is constructed on a land area of 1.5 million square feet and covers a built-up area of over 800,000 square feet, almost four times the size of Carrefour’s current largest distribution centre building in the region. The Centre will also feature advanced warehousing, storage and logistics technologies.
The multi-temperature storage at the new distribution centre is designed to meet the storage needs of the different food types including fruits, vegetables, meat and dry foods as well as warehousing for non-food goods. With a total storage capacity of over 400 million units, the new distribution hub is expected to save over 50 per cent energy per cubic metre and manage more than 150000 orders per day to support Carrefour’s brick and mortar stores in addition to the omni-channel business of Carrefour.

Hypermarket and supermarket chain working to boost local organic processes
Dubai, UAE: Hypermarket and supermarket chain Carrefour, operated and managed by Majid Al Futtaim, is looking to expand its organic fruit, delicatessen and dairy product lines and work with local suppliers to boost organic capacity as UAE shoppers become more health conscious.
Carrefour will join more than 700 international suppliers of finished foods at The Speciality Food Festival, SEAFEX and Yummex Middle East, being held at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) this week. Additional retail heavyweight sourcing missions attending the shows include senior delegations from Jumeirah Group, Spinneys, Waitrose, Dubai Duty Free, Rotana Group, Emirates Flight Catering, Manuel Supermarket and Dubai Mall among others.
Carrefour will use the show as a platform to source additional food lines for health-conscious customers, Miguel Povedano, Executive Regional Director at Carrefour UAE, said. “Organic and health-conscious products as well as convenient ‘food to go’ are the most significant food trends impacting the UAE and Carrefour UAE is working with UAE producers to further boost local organic processes.

With global market intelligence Euromonitor International forecasting that the UAE’s Food and Beverage (F&B) sector will grow its annual revenues from AED 52.4 billion currently to AED 81.9 billion by 2020, changing consumer preferences are influencing growth within regional gourmet and specialised food sectors, according to Andrew Pert, Exhibitions Director, Exhibitions & Events Management, DWTC.

Majid Al Futtaim celebrates 21 years since introducing hypermarket concept to the region with daily promotions
Dubai, UAE – 30 October 2016: Majid Al Futtaim, the leading shopping mall, retail and leisure pioneer across the Middle East and North Africa, today announced that Carrefour will open ten new stores in the UAE in 2017, setting it on target to reach 140 hypermarkets and 210 supermarkets in the countries in which Majid Al Futtaim operates by 2018.
Carrefour, franchised by Majid Al Futtaim in 38 markets across the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia, will open two hypermarkets and eight supermarkets across the emirates next year as it looks to meet the growing demand for convenience shopping.
“This week marks 21 years since Majid Al Futtaim introduced the Carrefour hypermarket concept to the UAE and the wider region as part of its vision to create great moments for everyone, every day. Since then, the brand has become synonymous with providing customers with unbeatable value and choice.
