- When it rains a lot in Bolivia between December and April the large capsules which usually contain around 20 kernels or nuts fall from the up to 50m high Brazil nut trees
- At the foot of the tree the capsules are opened and the kernels are removed
- These are then dried at central collection points before they are gently roasted and then cracked - only here does the Brazil nut appear as we know it
- The relatively large brown-white nut has a slightly earthy taste and is a good source of magnesium and phosphorus as well as being rich in vitamin E
