The new Tamron 18-400mm is the world's first lens for APS-C DSLR cameras covering a focal length of 18 mm to 400 mm Zoom ratio of 22.2x. The focal length of 400 mm at the telephoto end allows the recording of ultra-telephoto images and corresponds to an image angle of 620 mm with a small image. This Megazoom is ideal for travel and daily use. It opens up the possibilities for the photographer from wide-angle to ultra-telephoto without having to change the lens. Excellent image quality over the entire zoom range from wide-angle to ultra-tele The optical design consists of 16 lens elements in 11 groups. The use of special glass elements such as LD (low dispersion) and aspherical lens elements effectively minimize image aberrations, including chromatic aberrations and distortion, ensuring excellent image quality. The optimum power distribution between the individual lens groups achieves a high optical performance and a compact size. Although the lens reaches a revolutionary zoom range of 18 to 400 mm, it is still lightweight and compact with a total length of 123.9 mm and a weight of less than 710 grams. A new three-stage lens barrel construction has been developed to provide the necessary zoom for the 22.2 times zoom ratio. Thanks to Tamron's Megazoom philosophy, every photographer is given the opportunity to be equipped with this compact lens for a variety of photographic tasks.
The AF drive system uses Tamron's exclusive HLD (High / Low Torque Modulated Drive) motor. The energy-saving HLD motor provides excellent driving torque to allow accurate and quiet focusing. Due to its small size and its arc shape, the HLD motor takes up less space, making the lens even more compact.
The proven Tamron VC image stabilizer (Vibration Compensation) ensures sharp and shake-free images in this lens. The long tele focal length can also be used perfectly with hand held recordings.
The housing of the 18-400mm F / 3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD is protected against the ingress of water and dust at all critical points with special seals. The lens can be used safely in any weather, as well as in damp and dirty environments.
With Tamron's TAP-in console, the zoom lens can be adapted to the individual needs of the photographer. Via a software application and a USB connection to the computer the firmware can be updated and the autofocus and image stabilization can be adjusted.
